How are discipleship matches made?
Why are guys put with guys and girls put with girls?
We believe that this is the way that God outlined and that accountability and open sharing of struggles occur best in non-coed groups (Titus 2:4-8).
Can I get discipled and be a discipler at the same time?
Yes.
Is this a replacement for naturally occurring discipling relationships?
No. We believe that this website is one of many ways that God-honoring, discipling relationships can be formed.
What is a disciple?
There are multiple instances where Jesus gives a charge to anyone who wants to be His disciple. They can be summed up well when He says:
In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. ~Luke 14:33
This can best be understood in the way Jesus called the disciples. When He called them, they had to renounce many things to follow Him. These included their jobs, families, homes, ease and safety. However, Jesus asks for even more. He also asks anyone who wants to be His disciple to renounce their old desires for a desire for Him. A disciple is someone who responds to Jesus' call in a way that Jesus is their deepest desire in life such that everything is rubbish compared to Him. For more on this, check out Philippians 3:7-11.
You consistently refer to discipleship as, "A tangible way for people to see who God is and what following Him means in daily life." What exactly does that mean?
A tangible way
Being an example of what being a faithful disciple of Jesus looks like (1 Timothy 4:12).
for people to see who God is
This is done through your actions and words saying how great God is (Psalm 71:18).
and what following Him means in daily life.
Seeking to share the cost and the joy of following Christ in every aspect of life (Luke 9:24).
