Who Can Get Discipled?
Everyone!
You do not have to be a Christian to be discipled. When Jesus began His ministry he invited twelve men to journey alongside Him. These twelve men are what we refer to today as the twelve disciples. At the time, not all of the twelve disciples were on a path that led to heaven (one of them, Judas, even betrayed Jesus to death). Jesus wanted the disciples to see who God is and what following Him means in daily life.
Getting Discipled
I'm not too familiar with what Christianity is all about. Where is a good place to start?
My roommate won't talk to me anymore, what should I do?
I have an interest in a girl, but I struggle with secret sexual sin. Is it appropriate for me to ask her on a date?
If I commit to a life of living for God, what changes am I going to have to make in my life?
How can I give glory to God as a history major beyond just working hard?
The beauty of discipleship is that it provides a context in which God uses to answer questions like those listed above. In discipleship, the person being discipled gets to see the example that his/her discipler sets in living for Jesus. Just like Jesus, a discipler desires for the disciple to see who God is and understand what following Him means in daily life.
Discipleship Is Not:
Something to make you a nicer person.
Something that replaces Bible reading, prayer, or church.
A counseling session (we are not trained counselors; if you are seeking help in this way please contact the UMBC Counseling Center).
Discipleship Is:
A tangible way for you to see who God is and what following Him means in daily life.
